Where It’s Used:
Fruit Crops:
- Grapes (Dormant).
- Apples.
- Citrus.
- Kiwifruit.
- Stonefruit.
- Tamarillos, etc.
- Onions: pre- and early post-emergence.
- Typically used as a bare-ground or early crop Herbicide.
What it Controls:
Controls Annual Grasses + Broadleaf Weeds, Including:
- Chickweed.
- Fathen.
- Black Nightshade.
- Spurrey.
- Speedwell.
- Wireweed.
- Wild Oats (Partial).
Important limitation:
- Does NOT control Perennial Weeds or Established Weeds.
How It Works: (Key Point).
- Soil-applied residual Herbicide.
Taken up by:
- Emerging Shoots and Roots.
Mode:
- Inhibits cell division (microtubule formation).
Result:
- Weeds die just after germination or early emergence.
Key Idea:
- Prevents Weeds establishing rather than killing big Weeds.
Activation: (Critical For Performance).
- Needs ~10–12 mm rainfall or irrigation within ~10 days.
Without Moisture:
- Poor control.
- Patchy results.
Application Guidance:
Fruit Crops:
- Rate ~4.1–5.0 L/ha.
- Apply To bare soil under Trees/Vines.
- Avoid Contact with Green Bark, Buds, Foliage.
Onions:
- Pre-emergence apply within 4 days of sowing.
- Do NOT apply close to emergence (Crop damage risk).
- Post-emergence from 2 true leaf stage → up to 4 leaf stage.
- Mainly extends residual control (not knockdown).
Critical Limitations:
No Control Of:
- Established Weeds.
- Perennials.
Performance Reduced:
- In dry soil.
- High organic matter soils (>6%).
Often:
- Mixed with knockdown Herbicide if Weeds already present.
Crop Safety & Rotation:
- Do NOT plant sensitive Crops (eg. Ryegrass, Cucurbits, Beet Crops) for ~6 months after use.
- Residual carryover is important.
Resistance Management:
- Group K1 herbicide.
- Risk of resistance over time.
Best Practice:
- Rotate with other Herbicide Groups.
- Use in programmes, not repeated alone.
Safety & Environmental Hazards:
- May Cause:
- Skin sensitisation.
- Organ effects (long-term exposure).
- Very toxic to aquatic life & soil organisms.
Precautions:
- Avoid drift/runoff.
- Do not apply into water.
- Use PPE.
Bottom Line:
- Strada® 400SC = strong pre-emergence residual Herbicide.
Best Used:
- On clean, weed-free soil.
- With rainfall/irrigation soon after.
Key Strengths:
- Broad spectrum (grass + BLW).
- Long residual control.
Key Weakness:
- No control of established Weeds.
Caution:
Must be used strictly according to label directions.
