Paraquat 250 Herbicide 20L
PQ200/20
Active Ingredient:
200g/litre Paraquat as the Dichloride Salt in the form of a soluble concentrate.
Controls:
- Most Annual Grasses & Broadleaf Weeds.
- Some Perennials (top growth only – regrowth likely).
How It Works: (Key Behaviour).
- Rapidly destroys green plant tissue on contact.
- No translocation to roots → regrowth possible.
- Inactivated by soil → no residual activity.
Critical Point:
- Coverage = everything (must hit all green tissue).
Key Use Situations & Rates:
General Boom Spraying.
- Typical rate: 1.5 – 3.0 L/ha.
- Max single & annual rate: 3 L/ha.
- Water rate: up to 300 L/ha for good coverage.
Pasture / Renovation.
- 1.5 – 2 L/ha.
Timing:
- Autumn or spring.
- Before reseeding.
- Best on young, actively growing weeds.
Lucerne (dormant).
- 2 – 3 L/ha.
Apply when.
- Crop is dormant.
- Weeds are small and active.
Orchards / Vineyards (directed spray).
- ~350 ml / 100 L.
Apply to base of trees/vines only avoid:
- Green Bark.
- Crop Foliage.
Inter-row Cropping (veg, strawberries).
- Up to 3 L/ha.
Use:
- Shielded Spray.
- On Weeds ≤7 cm.
- Strictly directed spray only.
Application Conditions:
- Rainfast: ~20 minutes after drying.
Best results:
- Warm, humid conditions.
- Actively growing weeds.
Critical Application Rules:
- Use clean water only (soil deactivates product).
- Plants must be, free of dust/mud.
- Spray quality, coarse droplets (reduce drift).
- Wind apply between 3–20 km/h.
Safety (VERY IMPORTANT).
(This is one of the HIGHEST-RISK Herbicides in use — strict handling required).
- Paraquat products are HIGHLY TOXIC.(see note)
- Fatal if inhaled.
- Toxic if swallowed.
- Causes skin & eye irritation.
- Very toxic to aquatic life.
PPE required:
- Full protective clothing.
- Gloves, boots.
- Eye/face protection.
- Respiratory protection when mixing.
Environmental Controls:
Do NOT spray.
- Into waterways.
- Near sensitive plants.
- Buffer zones required, Up to 100 m (aerial) depending on situation.
Resistance Management:
- Group 22 → resistance possible with overuse.
- Rotate with, Glyphosate and Residual Herbicides.
- Often used in tank mixes for broader control.
Practical Takeaways: (Fast burn-down → ideal for)
- Pre-plant knockdown.
- Inter-row weed control.
- Not suitable for long-term control (no residual).
- Works best when weeds are small + actively growing.
- Often paired with Residual Herbicides for longer control.
Caution:
Must be used strictly according to label directions.
