Thistrol Plus is a selective Herbicide for controlling Broadleaf Weeds in Young and Established Pastures, Cereals, Peas and in White Clover and Grass Seed Crops. Suitable to use prior to your first graze in new Pasture.
Active Ingredient:
375g/L MCPB and 25g/L MCPA both as the Dimethylamine Salts in the form of a Soluable Concentrate.
Weeds: (General Rates/Notes).
- Annual Buttercups, Fathen, Scotch Thistle: 3–4 L/ha (treat before flowering).
- Black Nightshade, Redroot, Twin Cress, Giant Buttercup: 3–4 L/ha (Seedlings; suppress older).
- Thistles (Nodding, Winged, Variegated): 4 L/ha (Seedlings; suppress older).
- Californian Thistle: 4 L/ha (treat at Flower‑bud).
- Docks, Hedge Mustard, Nettles, Wild Turnip, Plantain, Willow Weed: 4 L/ha (Seedlings only).
- Tolerant Weeds: Chickweed, Chamomiles, Cleavers, Daisy, Dandelion, Ragwort, Speedwell, Spurrey, Stinking Mayweed.
Spot Treatment: 10 mL/L.
Crop-Specific: (Rates and Notes).
- Pasture — Newly Sown Pasture: 3–4 L/ha in 200 L water. Use after Clover has at least 2 true trifoliate leaves; Weeds still young Seedlings.
- Pasture — Established Pasture: 3–4 L/ha. Use higher rate once Weeds past 2–3 leaf stage or growing strongly.
- Cereals: 3–4 L/ha in 150–250 L water. Apply between 2nd leaf and first node; use higher rate if Weeds >3 leaves. DO NOT use on undersown Cereals (DO NOT use where Clover/Lucerne present).
- Peas: 3–4 L/ha in 150–250 L water. Apply between 5–7 node stage. Some temporary twisting of Crop may occur. DO NOT combine with other Herbicides. Delay treatment if heavy rain until crystal violet leaf test confirms crop safe to treat.
- White Clover Seed Crops: 3–4 L/ha in 150–250 L water. Apply in spring to actively growing seedling weeds. DO NOT apply after Clover flowering starts.
- Grass Seed Crops (e.g., Cocksfoot, Dogstail, Ryegrass, Timothy): 3–4 L/ha in 150–250 L water. Apply to Seedling Weeds well before Seed Head emergence in the Crop.
Hazard Classification & Warnings:
- GHS: Acute oral Category 4.
- Serious eye damage Category 1.
- Skin sensitisation Category 1.
- Reproductive toxicity Category 2.
- STOT (repeated) Category 2; Hazardous to soil organisms; Hazardous to terrestrial vertebrates; Aquatic acute & chronic Category 1.
- DANGER — Corrosive (Serious Eye Damage); may cause allergic Skin Reaction; suspected of damaging Fertility/Unborn Child; may cause Liver Damage from repeated exposure; very toxic to Aquatic Life and Soil; harmful to Terrestrial Vertebrates.
- Selective Herbicide — very toxic to some Plant species.
- Spray drift may cause serious damage to desirable plants.
Regulatory / Use Restrictions:
- Must be used only as per label.
- Person mixing/applying must be a Qualified Contractor or Qualified Person; spray mix may be prepared by a Qualified Loader.
- Stores ≥100 L require bunding/signage; >100 L require emergency response plans.
- Records of use per NZS 8409 if ≥3 L used within 24 hrs.
Precautions & PPE:
- Avoid Skin/Eye Contact and Inhalation.
- Wear Eye Protection, Waterproof Gloves, Boots, Hat and Overalls.
- Do not Eat/Drink/Smoke while using.
- Remove Protective Clothing and Wash Hands/Face after handling.
Environmental & Drift Controls:
- Do not apply directly onto/into water.
- Very toxic to aquatic life — avoid contamination of water supplies.
- Use low‑drift nozzles where susceptible Vegetation is within 0.5 km.
- Maintain ≥30 L/ha for aerial spraying.
- Do not add wetter unless specified.
- Preferred wind: light constant breeze away from sensitive Crops.
Storage & Disposal:
- Store in original container, tightly closed, locked, dry, cool area per NZS 8409.
- Triple rinse empty container and recycle or crush & bury in suitable landfill.
- Dispose of product only per label or at approved landfill.
First Aid & Spillage:
IF SWALLOWED:
- Do NOT induce vomiting. Contact National Poisons Centre 0800 POISON (0800 764 766) or doctor.
IF INHALED:
- Move to fresh air; if not breathing begin artificial respiration (mouth‑to‑nose).
IF ON SKIN:
- Wash with plenty of water; seek medical advice if irritation or rash occurs.
IF IN EYES:
- Rinse cautiously with water; remove contact lenses if present; continue rinsing; seek medical attention if irritation persists.
Spillage:
- Collect, wear PPE, prevent entry to waterways, absorb with inert material and dispose to approved landfill.
Mixing, Application & Equipment:
- Pour measured quantity into partly filled tank, top up with water, agitate during filling and spraying.
- Apply with well‑maintained calibrated equipment. Apply 100–300 L/ha ground; 30–100 L/ha aerial (label specifics).
- Tank/Equipment must be decontaminated using recommended Phenoxy procedures before use on sensitive Crops.
Resistance Management:
- Contains two GROUP 4 Phenoxy Herbicides. Resistance Possible; use tank mixes/rotation with different modes of action.

Animal Safety:
- Poisonous Plants may become more palatable after spraying — keep Stock away until Plants die down.
General Information:
- Slow acting; may take weeks to effect control. Converts from butyric (MCPB) to active acetic (MCPA) in Plants — treat small/actively growing Seedlings for best result.
- Do not spray stressed Weeds.
- Rain within 2 hours may reduce efficacy.
