Ventro WG 500g (Herbicide)
LATR500
Active Ingredient:
750g/kg Nicosulfuron.
Use Pattern.
- Crop, Grain and Maize Silage.
- Application timing Post-emergence.
Target weeds:
- Annual and Perennial Grasses.
- Some Broadleaf Weeds.
Key Weed Control.
Strong on:
- Couch Grass.
- Mercer Grass.
- Barnyard Grass.
- Summer Grasses.
- Also controls a range of Broadleaf Weeds.
How It Works.
- Absorbed through foliage and translocated throughout the plant.
- Stops weed growth quickly, followed by discolouration and gradual dieback.
Best Use Conditions.
Works best when, Weeds are actively growing and Conditions are warm and moist, Good soil moisture before and after spraying improves performance.
Crop Safety Notes.
Maize may show, Temporary yellowing and Mild stunting under stress conditions, Usually recovers without yield impact.
Safety & Handling.
- Keep out of reach of children.
- Registered under NZ ACVM (P7603).
- Emergency contact provided on label (NZ poison centre support).
Practical Takeaways.
- Very effective selective maize herbicide for grass control.
- Best used early post-emergence when weeds are small.
- Needs good growing conditions to maximise kill.
- Rotate modes of action to avoid Group 2 resistance.
Application Rates (per hectare).
- Standard rate 40–60 g/ha.
- Rate guidance 40 g/ha.
- Small, young annual grasses Light infestations 50–60 g/ha.
- Larger grasses Perennials (e.g. couch, Mercer grass) Heavier pressure.
- Always pair with the correct adjuvant (critical for performance).
Tank Mixes & Adjuvants.
- Required adjuvant Spraysmart Result spray oil. Typical rate 1% v/v (e.g. 1 L per 100 L water) or Non-ionic surfactant (NIS), Lower rates (check product), but generally less effective than oil.
Practical tip.
Spraysmart Result Spraying Oil is strongly preferred for grass control → noticeably better uptake..
Tank mixing options.
- Can be mixed with, Some broadleaf herbicides to widen spectrum, BUT be careful, Mixing can increase crop stress.
- Avoid mixing if Maize is stressed (cold, wet, drought, insect damage), Large temperature swings.
- When in doubt spray Ventro + Spraysmart Result oil alone, then come back for broadleafs.
Crop Stage Timing (CRITICAL).
Safe maize growth stage, Typically 2–6 leaf stage, is the Upper limit for spraying. Do NOT spray after ~6–7 leaf stage as there is an Increased risk of Crop damage that will result in Yield suppression. Weed stage is just as important, Best results when Grasses are small and actively growing, Ideally 2–4 leaf grasses, Couch/Mercer fresh regrowth (5–15 cm).
Avoid spraying when.
- Maize is under stress.
- Cold snaps.
- Waterlogging.
- Drought.
- Frost damage.
Weeds are:
- Mature.
- Stressed.
- Not actively growing.
Withholding / Re-entry (quick note).
Typically minimal for maize herbicides like this, but Follow label for grazing or silage timing if relevant.
Field-Proven Strategy.
If you want this product to really perform, Spray early post-emergence, Use Spraysmart Result spraying oil every time, Target small, actively growing grasses, Avoid “rescue” situations (late, big weeds = weaker results), Don’t push crop stage limits.
Caution:
Must be used strictly according to label directions..
Available in 500g.
