PRODUCT INFORMATION
Ken-Met 600 WG (Metsulfuron), for the control of Gorse, Blackberry, Broom and other Scrub and Broadleaf Weeds in Pasture, Forestry and Non-Cropland areas.
Active Ingredient:
600 g/kg METSULFURON-METHYL in the form of a water dispersible granule.(sulfonylurea).
What it Controls:
- Gorse.
- Blackberry.
- Broom and various Scrub and Broadleaf Weeds in Pasture, Forestry and Non‑Crop Areas.
- Not for Lawns, Driveways, etc.
- Aerial use for Non‑Crop Areas only.
Application Methods & Withholding:
Application Methods:
- Handgun.

- Aerial/Boom.
- Wick Wiper.
- Stump Swab.
- Stem Injection.
- Follow label for nozzle, pressure and water volumes (e.g., handgun 1,000–2,000 kPa, ≥1,000 L/ha spray).
- Do not carry >3 kg on passenger service vehicle.
Withholding Period:
- Do not graze Dairy Cows for 3 days after treatment (1 day for other Stock).

- Handgun 20–35 g/100 L.
- Knapsack 5–8 g/10 L.
- Mistblower 10–16 g/10 L.
- Boom/Aerial 200–300 g/ha.
- Best Jan–May.
Gorse:
- Handgun 20 g/100 L + Pennitr8 100 ml.
- Knapsack 5 g/10 L + Pennitr8 10 ml.
- Aerial/Boom options including 170–500 g/ha depending on method.
Bracken:
- Handgun 35 g/100 L.
- Boom 170 g/ha when fronds unfurled.
Broadleaf Weeds:
- Handgun 5 g/100 L.
- Boom 50 g/ha .
Stump Swabbing:
- 5 g/L.
Stem Injection:
- 20 g/L, inject 2 mL per hole.
Forestry Preplant (Radiata Pine):
- 170 g/ha; do not plant Trees within 2 months.
Ragwort/Thistles:
- 2.5–5 g/100 L; treat rosette to late flowering (note increased palatability after spraying).
Limitations / Non‑controlled Species:
Not Effective On:
- Black Nightshade.
- Woolly Nightshade.
- Boxthorn.
- Paspalum.
- Cocksfoot.
- Kikuyu.
- Brown Top.
- Pampas.
- Indian Doab.
- Couch.
Pasture Re‑Establishment:
- Extremely damaging to Clover and Ryegrass; soil residues can prevent re‑establishment.
- Wait minimum 3 months before oversowing; test small area first.
Resistance Management:
- Group 2 (sulfonylurea).
- Resistance possible—use cultural controls, rotate Herbicide modes of action and follow resistance guidance (resistance.nzpps.org).
Hazards:
- Eye irritation Category 2.
- Very toxic to aquatic life (acute & chronic Category 1).
- Very toxic to soil environment; harmful to soil organisms.
- Spray drift can severely damage non‑target plants. UN3077, Packing Group III, HAZCHEM 2X.
Personal Protection & Handling:
- Keep out of reach of Children.
- Use under control of trained/experienced applicator for wide dispersive use.
- Wear Gloves, Eye protection, Overalls and Boots; avoid Skin/Eye contact and inhalation.
- Do not Eat, Drink or Smoke while using.
- Use only the supplied measuring cup for dosing.
- Use calibrated, well‑maintained equipment.
First Aid & Emergency:
If Swallowed:
- DO NOT induce vomiting; contact National Poisons Centre 0800 POISON (0800 764 766) or doctor.
Skin/hair Contact:
- Remove contaminated clothing and rinse.
Eye:
- Rinse immediately with water.
- Emergency Advice: 0800 CHEMCALL / 0800 243 622 (24 h).
- Transport Emergency: dial 111.
Storage & Disposal:
- Store in original container, tightly closed, locked, dry, cool, away from food/seed/fertilisers; protect from freezing.
- Stores ≥100 kg require signage; >100 kg require emergency response plans.
- Triple rinse container; add rinsate to spray tank; burn if allowed or crush & bury or return to approved disposal.
Environmental Precautions:
- Avoid contamination of Waterways; do not apply into/onto water.
- Only apply to Drains/Irrigation Channels when dry and allow ≥2 months before they carry water.
- Prevent off‑target movement and root contamination of desirable Trees.
Mixing, Cleaning & Compatibility:
- Partly fill tank, add product and agitate while filling. Compatible with many Herbicides (e.g., Glyphosate).
- Add organosilicone surfactants (Pennitr8) last.
- Marker dyes (acetic acid based) use within 24 h.
Cleaning:
- Drain and flush, then two cycles of 1 L household bleach (3% sodium hypochlorite) per 100 L, remove nozzles/filters and rinse thoroughly.
Record Keeping & Legal:
- Keep records when using ≥3 kg within 24 hours.
- It is an offence to cause residues exceeding MRLs.
Caution:
Must be used strictly according to label directions..
