Activated Amitrole 400, 1L (Herbicide)
AMIT1
Active Ingredient:
400g/L Amitrole in the form of a water Soluble Concentrate.
What It Controls:
Controls A Wide Range Of:
- Annual Grasses.
- Perennial Grasses.
- Broadleaf Weeds.
- Brushweeds (e.g. Gorse, Blackberry).
- It’s used where you want bare ground or full cleanup, not selective spraying.
Where It’s Used:
Typical Label Uses:
- Non-crop areas (Yards, Fencelines, Drains, Waste areas).
- Forestry.
- Orchards/Vineyards (directed use only).
- Pre-cropping situations.
- Asparagus (specific timing).
Not For:
- General lawn spraying.
- Anywhere you want plants to survive.
How It Works:
- Absorbed through Foliage.
- Moves through the Plant and disrupts growth.
Important Difference:
- Slow acting (can take weeks to months for full kill).
Example From Label:
- Brushweeds may take up to 6 months to fully die.
Mixing Rates:(From Label Examples).
General Weed Control.
~1 L / 100 L water → easy Weeds.
~ 2 L / 100 L water → harder Weeds.
Knapsack / Spot Spraying.
~10–20 mL per litre depending on Weed type Brushweeds (e.g. Blackberry).
~ 15–20 mL per litre water.
Key Idea:
- Stronger mix = tougher Weeds.
- Always spray to wet foliage thoroughly.
When To Spray: (CRITICAL).
Best Results When:
- Weeds are actively growing and good leaf coverage is present.
Examples From Label:
- Blackberry → spray Nov–May.
- Gorse/Nightshade → during active growth.
Avoid:
- Drought conditions.
- Frost.
- Stressed Plants.
Application Tips:
- Spray to full coverage (Leaves + Stems).
Use:
- Knapsack.
- Handgun.
- Boom spray.
- Follow-up is often required.
- Burning, Crushing, or re-spraying may be needed for tough Weeds.
Spray Drift: (Warning)
The Label Clearly Warns:
- Spray drift may cause serious damage to desirable plants.
- Since it’s non-selective, drift = damage to.
- Trees.
- Crops.
- Gardens.
- Neighbours Plants.
Safety & Hazards: (Key Risks).
- Causes eye irritation.
- Suspected reproductive toxicity.
- Can damage organs with repeated exposure.

PPE Required:
- Gloves.
- Protective clothing.
- Eye protection.
Environmental Risks:
Harmful To:
- Waterways.

Special Use Notes: (IMPORTANT).
Forestry.
- Can be used pre-plant or early post-plant.
- Avoid contact with tree growing tips.
Asparagus.
- Only before spears emerge or after final harvest otherwise severe crop damage.
Key Mistakes To Avoid:
- Expecting fast results, this is slow acting → don’t re-spray too quickly.
- Using it like Glyphosate it works differently and often slower.
- Spraying near desirable plants It will kill almost anything green.
- Poor coverage it needs full leaf coverage to work well.
Bottom Line:
- Non-selective, total vegetation killer.
- Works on hard-to-kill and Perennial Weeds.
- Slow but thorough it often requires follow-up control.
- High risk of off-target damage.
Caution:
Must be used strictly according to label directions.
