Void is a selective Herbicide for the control of certain difficult-to-control Broadleaf Weeds in Pasture, Cereals, Fodder Brassicas, Maize, Turf and other Crops.
Active Ingredient:
300g/litre Clopyralid as the Amine Salt in the form of a Soluble Concentrate.
What This Product Is:
- Herbicide group: Group 4 Herbicide.
- Mode of action: mimics plant hormones → uncontrolled growth → plant death.
- It’s especially strong on Thistles, Clovers, and many Broadleaf Weeds.
Big Picture: (don’t ignore this).
This is not a casual-use spray:
- Workplace-only product (legally restricted in NZ).
- Must be handled by a Qualified Approved Handler.
- Very damaging to the environment.
- Long-lasting residue problems (this is the biggest trap).
- If you read nothing else, understand the residue + compost warnings below..
Key Hazards:
- Causes serious eye damage (Category 1).
Toxic To:
- Aquatic life.
- Soil organisms.
- Some Animals.
- Spray drift can kill nearby Plants easily.
- This stuff moves in Soil and Plant Material, not just where you spray it.
Personal Protection: (non-negotiable).
When Mixing/Applying:
- Gloves.
- Overalls.
- Boots.
- Eye protection.
Also:
- No eating/drinking/smoking.
- Wash thoroughly after use.
The BIG risk: residues (this is where people mess up).
- Clopyralid is infamous for sticking around in Plant Material and Manure.
Compost Restrictions:
- DO NOT Compost, Grass Clippings or Treated Plants.
- DO NOT send to green waste recycling.
- Manure risk animals grazing treated areas → manure can kill Crops later.
Waiting Periods:
- Don’t compost treated material for at least 10 weeks.
- Don’t use manure from treated Pasture for Compost for 3+ weeks.
Real-world impact:
- People have wiped out entire Vegetable Gardens using contaminated Compost.
Soil Residual Restrictions:
- After spraying wait 12 weeks before planting, Peas, Beans, Carrots, Cucurbits, Potatoes, Tomatoes.
- Wait up to 6 months at higher rates.
Safe Crops:
- Brassicas.
- Cereals.
- Ryegrass.
- If unsure: test plant a small area first (label explicitly says this).
What It Controls Best:(Very Effective On)
- Californian Thistle.
- Yarrow.
- Clover (it will hammer Clover hard).
- Ragwort.
- Dock.
- Plantain.
Also controls Woody Weeds (higher rates):
- Gorse.
- Broom.
Pasture Warning: (important).
- Even low rates (100 mL/ha) can suppress Clover for 2–6 months.
- Higher rates = Clover wiped out completely If you rely on Clover for nitrogen → think carefully.
Application Rules:
- Don’t spray if rain within 3 hours.
- Must get good coverage.
Works Best When:
- Weeds actively growing.
- Good moisture.
Poor Results In:
- Drought.
- Cold.
- Stressed Plants.
Mixing & Use:
- Add to partially filled tank.
- Keep agitation going.
- Compatible with many Herbicides (often tank-mixed).
Spray Drift Warning:
- Can seriously damage nearby Crops/Plants.
Especially Dangerous Around:
- Gardens.
- Vineyards.
- Sensitive Crops.
Resistance Management:
- Same mode of action repeated → resistance risk Rotate with other Herbicide Groups.
Bottom Line:
- Void is very effective on tough Broadleaf Weeds.
But Also:
- Persistent.
- Environmentally risky.
- Easy to misuse.
The biggest real-world danger isn’t spraying—it’s what happens months later through Compost, Soil, or Manure Contamination.
Practical Advice:
Use This Product If:
- You’re targeting serious Thistle/Clover problems.
- You understand residue risks.
Avoid Or Be Cautious If:
- You compost.
