PRODUCT INFORMATION
Verdex® 18EC is a Miticide for use in Avocados, Pipfruit, Indoor Tomatoes, Strawberries, Kiwifruit and Ornamentals and for the control of Tomato/Potato Psyllid in Potatoes.
Active Ingredient:
18g/litre Abamectin in the form of an emulsifiable concentrate.
What This Product Is:
- Verdex® 18EC is a Miticide/Insecticide used in horticulture.
- Active ingredient: Abamectin (18 g/L).
- It targets Mites and some Insect Pests by affecting their nervous system (they stop feeding and die).
What It’s Used on:
Approved Crops include:
- Avocados.
- Tomatoes (especially greenhouse).
- Strawberries.
- Kiwifruit.
- Ornamentals.
- Potatoes (for Psyllid control).
Key Safety Warnings: (IMPORTANT).
From the label:
- Toxic Pesticide (Class 6.1).
- Keep out of reach of children.
Avoid Contact With:
- Skin.
- Eyes.
- Spray mist (inhalation).
- Do NOT contaminate waterways.
- Do NOT use on animals.
- In emergencies: call 111 or poison hotline (listed on label).
How It Works:
- Absorbed into plant leaves (not fully systemic).
- Mites ingest it while feeding.
- Works over about 7 days for full control.
- Residual activity lasts several weeks inside leaves.
Use Restrictions & Cautions:
Don’t Spray:
- In very hot conditions.
- When drying is slow.
- Avoid mixing with multiple chemicals (can damage crops).
- Some plants are sensitive (e.g. certain Ornamentals, Apples, Pears).
Withholding Periods: (Before Harvest).
Typical Examples:
- Tomatoes & Strawberries: 3 days.
- Apples/Pears & Avocados: 14 days.
- Potatoes: 14 days.
Environmental & Handling:
- Toxic to aquatic life → avoid runoff.
- Spills must be contained with absorbent material and disposed of properly.
- Classified as a dangerous good for transport (UN 2902).
