PRODUCT INFORMATION
TopStar® is a Systemic Insecticide for the control of Armoured Scales, Bronze Beetle, Codling Moth, Mealy Bugs, Froggatt’s Apple, Leafhopper and Fuller’s Rose Weevil in Apples, Thrips in Avocados, Armoured Scales in Kiwifruit, Thrips in Onions, Potato Tuber Moth and Tomato/Potato Psyllids in Potatoes.
Active Ingredient:
480g/litre Thiacloprid SC.
What It Controls:
TopStar® is used against Pests like:
- Codling Moth.
- Armoured Scale.
- Thrips.
- Mealybugs.
- Bronze Beetle.
- Potato/Tomato Psyllid.
Across Crops such as:
- Apples.
- Avocados.
- Kiwifruit.
- Onions.
- Potatoes.
Key Safety Warnings:
The label is very explicit:
- Signal word: DANGER.
- Harmful if swallowed.
- Suspected carcinogen and reproductive toxin.
- Can damage organs with repeated exposure.
- Very toxic to aquatic life.
Other Critical Points:
- Keep out of reach of Children.
- Do NOT use on Animals.
- Avoid contamination of Waterways.
- Protective gear is required when handling.
First Aid: (IMPORTANT)
If swallowed: Call a doctor/poison centre, do NOT induce vomiting.
- Eyes: Rinse for at least 15 minutes.
- Skin: Wash immediately with soap and water.
Application Basics:
- Add directly to spray tank with agitation.
Typical rates (examples):
- Apples: ~30 ml / 100 L water.

Withholding Periods (before harvest):
- Apples: 42 days.
- Avocados: 14 days.
- Onions: 42 days.
- Potatoes: 14 days.
- Kiwifruit: pre-flowering only.
Legal / compliance notes:
- Must not exceed residue limits (MRLs).
- Use requires a qualified person/contractor in NZ.
- It is an offence to misuse or cause contamination.
