Equate Herbicide 1L
EQUA1
Equate® is an herbicide that can be used pre or post-emergence on weeds. It is absorbed by the roots and foliage of susceptible weeds and translocated. Equate® can be used pre or post-emergence on weeds. When applied pre-emergence, susceptible weeds might emerge but growth will be retarded and the weeds will either die or remain stunted and will not compete with the crop. Adequate soil moisture is important for optimum activity. When applied post-emergence of the weeds, they will either die or remain stunted and will not compete with the crop. For use postemergence of the weeds, a non-ionic surfactant or adjuvant oil must be added to
Equate®.
Active Ingredient:
240g/litre Imazethapyr.
What it does.
- Controls a range of broadleaf and some grass weeds.
- Works both pre-emergence and post-emergence, Absorbed through roots and foliage, then moves within the plant.
- Stops growth → weeds either die or remain stunted and non-competitive.
Where it’s used(Commonly used in).
- Clover.
- Lucerne (alfalfa).
- Suitable for new and established crops.
How it works. (mode of action).
- Inhibits the enzyme ALS (acetolactate synthase) This blocks amino acid production → plant growth stops early.
- Effects may take days to show, with full death taking weeks.
Key use points.
- Needs good soil moisture for best results.
- For post-emergence use, you must add a surfactant or adjuvant oil.
- Rainfast in about 2 hours.
Important Precautions.
- Very toxic to aquatic life.
- Avoid spray drift onto other plants or waterways.
- Requires a qualified handler in NZ.
- 42-day withholding period before grazing/cutting.
Strengths.
- Flexible timing (pre + post).
- Has residual activity (keeps working in soil).
- Cost-effective for pasture/seed crops.
Limitations.
- Resistance risk if overused (Group B herbicide).
- Can cause temporary crop yellowing.
