Cletho 240 EC 10L Herbicide (Controls Grasses)
VEGA10
Active Ingredient:
240g/litre Clethodim EC in the form of an Emulsifiable Concentrate.
What It Is:
- CLETHO 240 EC = selective Post-emergence Herbicide.
- Chemical Group: Group A (DIM Grass Herbicide).
- Designed specifically to kill Grass Weeds without damaging Broadleaf Crops.
What It Controls:
- Targets a wide range of Annual + Perennial Grasses, including:
- Ryegrass (Annual & Perennial).
- Wild Oats.
- Cocksfoot.
- Barnyard Grass.
- Summer Grass.
- Barley Grass.
- Couch, Paspalum (Higher Rates).
Some Grasses like Yorkshire Fog may only be suppressed, not fully killed.
Where It’s Used:
- Broadleaf Crops (e.g. Legumes, Vegetables).
- Forestry (Tree Release Spraying).
- Clover-based systems.
- Important: it DOES NOT control Broadleaf Weeds — only Grasses.
How It Works:
- Systemic → absorbed through leaves and moves to growing points.
- Stops Grass growth, then kills Plant over time.
- Rainfast quickly once absorbed.
Works Best On:
- Young, actively growing Grasses.
- Not stressed (cold, drought, waterlogging).
Application Basics:
Typical Rates: (depending on Grass).
- 0.25–0.5 L/ha → small Annual Grasses.
- 0.5–1.0 L/ha → tougher Annual Grasses.
- 2–3 L/ha → Perennial Grasses (e.g. Couch).
Water Rates:
- 100–400 L/ha.
- Use higher rates for dense infestations.
Additives:
- Requires Result® Spraying Oil / adjuvant for best performance.
- Special use (Forestry / Spot Spraying).
Spot Mix:
- 3.5 mL CLETHO 240 EC + 10 mL Result® Oil per litre of water.
- Apply to actively growing Grass Seedlings.
Withholding Periods:
- Vegetables: ~5 weeks.
- Clover: ~9 weeks.
- Legumes: ~3 weeks.
Key Restrictions:
- DO NOT apply during Asparagus cutting period.
- Avoid mixing with most other Herbicides (can reduce effectiveness).
- Often used alone or with very specific tank partners.
Safety & Environmental Risks:
- Causes Skin + Eye Irritation.
- May cause organ damage with repeated exposure.
- Very toxic to Aquatic Life.
Critical:
- DO NOT spray near Waterways.
- Avoid drift.
- Wear full PPE (Gloves, Eye/Face Protection).
Resistance Management:
- Group A Herbicide → high resistance risk (Especially Ryegrass).
Rotate With:
- Different Herbicide Groups.
- Avoid repeated use year after year.
- Ryegrass resistance is a real issue in NZ systems.
Bottom Line:
- Grass-only Herbicide (won’t touch Broadleaf Weeds).
Very Effective In:
- Clover.
- Lucerne.
- Vegetable Crops.
Needs:
- Correct Rate + Result® Oil + Timing.
- Watch resistance carefully.
Caution:
Must be used strictly according to label directions.
